Like most people, you may sometimes feel as though you’re not hitting your maximum potential in your role on the job. You may feel as though you’re not connecting with your colleagues, or that some unknown force is holding you back. Do you know your personality through your Bazi profile may hold the key to greater happiness and success, both at work and at home?
The following story is sure to sound familiar to you. Susan enjoyed her job, but she felt as though she wasn’t connecting with her colleagues and her boss. Sometimes, it seemed as though they were all speaking different languages! It was not until Susan discovered her Bazi profile, that she learned that everyone has aspects of personality traits that form their character, and if you know your personality traits, you’ll be happier and more successful—both at work and at home!
This system, based on a 2,000-year-old Chinese metaphysical study, revealed to Susan aspects of her own character that she wasn’t aware of: she had the main profile of a Director[1] and the sub profile of a Performer[1]. The Main profile refers to the most prominent profile, which is most obvious to others. The Sub profile is the next most prominent profile, where the characteristic is often observed by others. These valuable insights, and many others, helped Susan to maximise her potential and become more productive at work.
Similar to Susan, I always knew that I enjoy job roles that allow me to interact and influence others especially the roles that I feel will benefit others. However, as I rose through the ranks in the corporate world, I felt that my connection and interaction with others seem to be laced with numerous undercurrents and misunderstandings. As I began to lose the job satisfaction that I feel each time I see a customer or patient benefit from the use of the company’s products or technology, I thought to myself: I should be happy that I am being recognized and rewarded with promotions, but why am I not feeling that way?
When I first discovered Bazi personality profiling[1], I was intrigued. I realized that I belong to the Leader profile, one who enjoys influencing and inspiring others, especially those that I feel is of a worthy cause. This is in addition to the fact that I am born on the day of the Fire element, which also represents the characteristics of influencing others (Fire – the element that can change the forms of the other elements: melt metal, evaporate water, burn wood and cook food). Thus, as long as I am in a role that allows me to interact and influence others, see their improvements from a harmony, happiness, health and success standpoint, I will stay motivated, passionate and happy with what I do.
The different profiles in the Bazi personality profiling system[1] approach life, interact with others and are motivated in different ways. Similar to the Big Five Personality traits[2] described in modern psychology, Bazi studies classify personalities into:
5 elements
•Metal – Factual,
•Water – Flexibility,
•Wood – Nurturing,
•Fire – Passion, and
•Earth – Trust
5 different structures[1]
(or approaches to human interactions)
•Manager – Action,
•Systems – Process,
•People – Network,
•Output – Create, and
•Resource – Think,
10 different profiles[1]
(which define the roles that one is best suited for)
•Director
•Pioneer
•Diplomat
•Warrior
•Friend

•Artist
•Performer

•Philosopher
When you are aware of your make-up, your approach to life and the role that you can naturally perform the best at, you certainly will be happier and more motivated. Since you are more motivated, you will be more passionate about what you do and logically you will be more successful.
“The key difference between those who are successful and happy, and those who are successful but not happy is the alignment of their work, belief and passion.”
Once you understand yourself, take steps to build your natural talent into competencies and learn to manage your weakness, the next step to happiness and success will be effective communication with others. Research has shown that behaviour impacts relationships and if organizations want to succeed, it is important for its people to enjoy working with one another.
By building effective communication and relationship with others, we can positively influence and get things done through others, working with them to achieve success, happiness and our common goals. This is crucial, especially if you are a leader. I have seen lots of clients who are curious about the profiles of their family, bosses, colleagues, employees or potential partners. You can utilize the Bazi profiling system to get to know and understand their profiles, styles and approaches. By understanding things from their perspectives, better team work and interaction experience can be built, creating an even more harmonious and cohesive work environment.
